How To Choose The Size Of Outdoor Curtains

What outdoor curtain length do I need?
One of the most common questions when choosing outdoor curtains is, how long do I need curtains? Does the top type affect the length I need? What is the actual hanging height of outdoor curtains? Do I need curtains hanging above the ground? Still should let them gather on the ground or soak in water. In this guide, we will show you the steps you should take to determine the best length for you.

About Top

The first step in finding the right curtain length is to understand which top type to use for the curtains, as each curtain has a slightly different hanging height. On suchoutdoor, we use three top types: grommet top, grommet top & bottom & tab top.

Tab Top

Curtains Length

Curtains are usually measured from the top to the bottom of the curtain. If you are interested in curtains with a grommet top, there is usually an inch and a half of fabric above the grommet top. Therefore, the actual hanging height of an 84-inch long curtain with a grommet top is about 82.5 inches. When choosing a preset size or a custom size, it is important to subtract 1.5 inches from the length to obtain the actual hanging height.

For the tab and the top of the sleeve, the hanging height meets the listed dimensions because the curtain is measured from the top to the bottom of the tab or sleeve. Therefore, the hanging height of an 84-inch long curtain from top to bottom is 84 inches.

Stabilizing Grommets

The most popular option is to hang outdoor curtains on the ground because it is less maintained, but without weight or fixed buttonholes, it is more susceptible to wind. We recommend stabilizing the grommet because the counterweight can be dangerous on windy days. We provide the complete grommet products below.

Pooling the Curtains

If you choose to pool your outdoor curtains, choosing a length is all dependant on how much of that curtain you would like to rest on the ground. We recommend between 2 and 8 inches of extra fabric when pooling. Because these curtains are pooling (puddling) on the ground, they will be a little more resistant to wind.

Due to the nature of having fabric resting on the ground, they will be more susceptible to stains and prolonged periods of moisture. we supply High-density waterproof fabrics, both are outdoor safe and easy to maintain.
